NM HS Women's Wrestling Weekend Review

This weekend high school wrestling got underway for the women. With a couple of tournaments taking place we can get a better view at what's to come.

The Lady Warrior Invitational had a good turnout with 14 teams participating. The defending State Champion Miyamura Patriots showed they're ready for a repeat, winning the Lady Warrior Invitational by more than a ten point margin with 75 team points. Leading the pack was senior standout defending state champion Yele Aycock. The patriots had 5 placers at the Invitational.

Coming in second with a big tournament performance were the Socorro Warriors with 63 team points. Showing growth the Warriors could be in line to spoil the Patriots run at a repeat.

In Albuquerque, the Volcano Vista Open also went down. There, the West Mesa Mustangs flexed their potential at a state title this year. The Mustangs had 7 placers with three champions at the open, led by Senior Nedia Nevarez. Also looking good are the Atrisco Jaguars. Their defending State Champion Santi Santiago took home gold this weekend. Santiago is a high favorite to win another state title.
